Since I thought it'd be nice to actually update instead of just thinking about it, I've decided to steal a few of those memes I've seen around lately. *starts spamming the flist*

This song is based on a poem by Eino Leino, one of our most important poets. To be honest, I've never read the poem and I never cared about the older versions of this song. This, however, hit me like a hammer.
I remember that I was doing something while watching TV and when Meurman started to sing, I just stopped. I stood there, watching and listening and forgetting everything else, and my reactions were pretty much like ones you can see above. Surprise, wonder (I actually held my hand over my mouth) and happiness (grinning like mad when it ended).
It's very... I don't know, maybe it touches the melancholy Finn part in me. The song itself is depressing and sad, and it's one of those songs even grown-up macho men can admit crying over (especially if they're drunk). Like I said, the earlier versions didn't impress me much but something about Meurman's voice in this is just... It just is and my heart speeds up every time I hear this (live version which is, imo, better than the recorded).
Lapin Kesä means Lapland's Summer and if you're interested, here's a very rough translation of the lyrics. By "rough" I mean that I want to claw my eyes out when I read it, but it's better than nothing.
