Brokeback Mountain

I've been meaning to watch Brokeback Mountain since... well, whenever it was in theaters. I read the book even before that and it was quite good, so I thought it might be nice to see the movie (and, because I'm not fooling anyone, it had pretty, gay cowboys in it).

I dloaded and tried to watch it yesterday. Stress on the word "tried" because as soon as it hit the first sex scene, I was left gawking and decided to watch only the end. Not because it was hot but because it was like from a bad fic.

JACK: *gropes Ennis*
ENNIS: Get the hell away from me, you queer!
JACK: *gropes some more*
ENNIS: ...OK.
JACK: *opens belt*
ENNIS: On your knees, bitch! *opens belt*

Honestly, I expected more from a movie which has been praised from here to everywhere. I'm sure the budget would've covered a few advise from an actual gay man. Hell, ask any yaoi fangirl and she could tell how anal sex works so that there won't be Horrible Pain and/or Suddenly Unconscious Tops. It's the little details that make the difference whether it's a fic or a movie.

Aw, you should give the movie another chance. It's not about the sex --heck, I didn't even think Jack and Ennis' characters were well-fleshed out. Rather, I think Brokeback Mountain succeeds in creating the right kind of atmosphere, and connecting on a more visceral level, if that makes any sense. ^^

*nods* It makes sense. The bits I saw of the movie had a wonderfully normal atmosphere with the feeling that something wasn't right. And then everything did go to hell in a handbasket. *sniff*

But the same can be said about the book. I probably should read it again once I'll have time.

Well, hunny, they are cowboys. The pop theyr own goddam bpnes back in place and they sew themselves up aided on whisky. The both of them. They hit the crap out of each other several times. And Ennis is quite the emotionally repressed boy if I do say so myself. He did the lemme-get-outta-here jitter with his own daughter.

I know. But there's a big difference between tending ones wounds, no matter how huge the needle is, and getting fucked without lube. The latter being the sort of activity that's supposed to be fun and relatively painless (unless, of course, there's some kink involved) whether you were a cowboy or not. It's common courtesy to not to shred your partners rectum so that he bleeds (which didn't happen either).

Sorry for butting in, but I felt something like despair. The feeling of two wasted lives, of two people tht could never be happy because they were scared and the world was against them. Happiness knocked on their doors and they kicked it away.

We don't know if he bleed or not. I'm guessing he did and never mentioned it. Also, Ennis didn't know what the hell he was doing, and it was pretty much an impulse. It seems that there was so many repressed feelings between them that they exploded. And explotions are messy. I'm guessing it hurt like hell, but they didn't care.

And they are cowboys. I have some experience with cowboys myself, comming form a family of them (daddy's side) and lemme tell you, you are understimating how brute-like they can be. It's a matter of honor to never let if show that your are hurt so much you wanna throw yourself down a hill and end it all. And if they are drunk enough, it's a matter of honor to do shit that hurts like hell and never show that it hurts.

The chance that he didn't bleed is practically non-existent. I've read enough essays about gay sex (for research: anyone writing m/m fics should do it) to know that anal sex without lubrication and/or careful preparation will hurt like hell. Jack didn't even seem to be sore, and I doubt it would've been too difficult to make it look like he hurt while pretending, all macho and manly, that he didn't.
